Some of the songs have specially recorded introductions with the artist talking to Bruce Forsyth. Petula Clark is one example. Applause is dubbed in to suggest a live show, but they are studio recordings. The introductions are an interesting curiosity though.

Ted Heath And His Music

Not the early Ted Heath recordings BUT nevertheless a great driving big band plus emphasis on the Percussion side of the band...and of course Phase 4 Stereo !!
The majority of the Phase 4 Stereo Series seem to concentrate more on the Stereo aspect.. that is placing the instruments either left right or middle and even moving them around....Even so on this recording you can still hear and feel the Ted Heath influence and drive !!
Hence the name "Phase 4 Stereo" !!!

 This is a great film one of my favourites of the 60's....highly recomended... if it comes on TV or you see it in your local DVD store get it !!....it's a classic (My opinion of Course)....it is on "Youtube" in 11 parts...but the sound is out of sinc...tried to get a trailer but could'nt find one.

Connee Boswell

This was Connee Boswell's final album. The singer, who had just turned 50, was no longer in her musical prime although her vocals were still quite listenable. Joined by some top studio musicians (including four trombones on five numbers and a small string section on the remaining five), Boswell interprets ten Irving Berlin songs. Her phrasing was still appealing and lightly swinging although her voice was not as strong as previously. This last chapter in Connee Boswell's career is a historical curiosity that was issued in 1958.

 Constance Foore "Connee" Boswell (December 3, 1907 in Kansas City, Missouri – October 11, 1976 in New York City, New York) was an American female vocalist. With her sisters, Martha and Helvetia "Vet" Boswell, she performed in the 1930s as The Boswell Sisters. They became a highly influential singing group during this period via recordings and radio.
 Connee herself is widely considered one of the greatest jazz female vocalists and was a major influence on Ella Fitzgerald who said, "My mother brought home one of her records, and I fell in love with it....I tried so hard to sound just like her. In 1936, Connee's sisters retired and Connee continued on as a solo artist (having also recorded solos during her years with the group).

 I had not heard of this singer before I got it from "Bob" so I "Googled" her and this is what "wikipedia" had to say about her....which is not a lot
 

Anita Meyer, born in Rotterdam 29 October 1954, is a Dutch singer. One of her most notable songs is "Why Tell Me Why" that charted for 14 weeks and topped the Dutch singles list for six weeks in 1981.

 

She has a voice very similar to "Linda Lewis" and all the songs on this L/P seem to be originals that is no standards or well known songs....so I guess that it's one of those "the more you play and listen to it the better it becomes" !!

Google translate gives this title as "Souvenir Drawer"....a selection of well known melody's so I guess it does make some kind of sense ...Played by well known orchestra's easy listeners will thank Bob for this one !

Its not often that you get a Big Band leader who is more known for fronting the band to get out and do solo singing !!....Recorded in 1957...Woody Herman left his clarinet and alto sax behind for this all vocal release. Herman is a swinging, friendly singer heard doing such time-tested standards as the humorous "Makin' Whoopee," a more upbeat than typical "Willow Weep For Me," and "I Won't Dance." The musicians from each of the two sessions provide strong accompaniment: "Sweets" Edison, Charlie Shavers, and Ben Webster are outstanding and Marty Paich's arrangements fit Herman's style rather well. Although not an essential for everyone, this is a fun session that shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.

Another rare gem from John's record store of 78's RPM complete with the introduction of the scratching  and surface noise at the beginning of the record that was inevitable with the old shellac discs !!..boy they were brittle and very easily broken especially if you sat on them !!..by mistake of course !!....It must have been a heavy box 9 records and a 78 was no lightweight !!

 Dorothy Shay (April 11, 1921 – October 22, 1978) was an American popular comedic recording artist in the late 1940s and early 1950s, who later became a character actress. She was known as the "Park Avenue Hillbilly".She signed with Columbia Records and recorded a series of hit records. Her biggest hit was "Feudin' and Fightin'" in 1947. In that same year, her album, "Dorothy Shay (The Park Avenue Hillbilly) Sings", was rated number 1 in Billboard magazine's Best-Selling Popular Albums. She was the first female artist to have a number 1 album on the Billboard chart.

 Paul Leroy Robeson April 9, 1898 – January 23, 1976) was an American bass singer and actor.

 Between 1925 and 1961, Robeson recorded and released some 276 distinct songs, many of which were recorded several times. The first of these were the spirituals "Steal Away" backed with "Were You There" in 1925. Robeson's recorded repertoire spanned many styles, including Americana, popular standards, classical music, European folk songs, political songs, poetry and spoken excerpts from plays.Robeson's politics did not prevent him from singing some songs which would subsequently be considered to have racist language or sentiment, such as "The Little Pickaninny's Gone to Sleep" (1928) and "Old Folks at Home" (1930).
