Curtain Up

Now I think this could be classed as a rarity !...we have "Brucie" introducing singing stars records with an audience ??....clearly they are the records and not live performances
If you like nostalgia you will like this one !!!...and it came from over the pond !!...Ta John !!

1. Footlights Rhapsody...Tony Osborne Orchestra
2. Mister Music...Roy Castle
3. Suddenly...Petula Clark
4. Does Your Chewing Gum Loses It Flavour...Lonnie Donegan
5. Charlie Brown...Ray Ellington
6. Chick...Joe Mr Piano Henderson
7. Gigi...Edmund Hockridge

1. Footlights Rhapsody...Tony Osborne Orchestra
2. Jezebel...Gary Miller
3. This Is My Town...Lita Roza
4. Wait For Me...Marion Ryan
5. Tequila...Bill Shepard Orchestra
6. Venus...Dickie Valetine
7. Blue Cha-Cha-Cha...Cherry Wainer

Some of the songs have specially recorded introductions with the artist talking to Bruce Forsyth. Petula Clark is one example. Applause is dubbed in to suggest a live show, but they are studio recordings. The introductions are an interesting curiosity though.

        7. Blue Cha Cha Cha

Ted Heath And His Music

Not the early Ted Heath recordings BUT nevertheless a great driving big band plus emphasis on the Percussion side of the band...and of course Phase 4 Stereo !!
The majority of the Phase 4 Stereo Series seem to concentrate more on the Stereo aspect.. that is placing the instruments either left right or middle and even moving them around....Even so on this recording you can still hear and feel the Ted Heath influence and drive !!
Hence the name "Phase 4 Stereo" !!!

        5. Thou Swell

Show Boat.London Production.

This is the London 1971 production it opened at "The Adelphi Theatre" on July 29th 1971....Once again I should imagine quite different from the film as there are more songs recorded..there is a great version on here of "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" well worth the download just for that track !!

P.S. Listening to the above mentioned track I think that it is the best version of that song that I have heard !!...Cleo is in excellent voice on all the songs she sings...On the whole this is an excellent recording of the "Show"....BUT I can't get the film version with "Kathryn Grayson" and "Howard Keel" out of my mind....To me that is the definitive version of the songs.....There is still a bit of controversy over the songs that "Ava Gardner" sings and that includes "Can't Help Loving That Man"......whether or not she actually did sing them or was she "Ghosted" that is another person sang for her....I vaguely remember somewhere hearing her actually singing "Loving That Man" then the soundtrack was played and it sounded the same to me !!!....no doubt someone will know...be interesting to find out !!!

A Chorus Line.

This is the original Cast Recording from "The New York Shakespeare Festival Production" from 1975...It gives no other information of where it was performed and no dates other than 1975....Its another case of you would have to see the show to fully appreciate this L/P.....I have not seen either the show or the Film which I do believe has been made....There are two "Hit" songs from this show..."One" and "What I Did For Love" !

L/P's like this could have done with someone to invent a stylus that would have been able to read the "Video" signals as well as the audio ones !!...but there again it would mean an whole new invention the L/P would have been made to take Video as well as sound in its grooves !!!..as well as a whole new set of players to play them !!!!..ect ect ect !!!
